Cafes in Burundi are varieties Arabica Bourbon high altitude (up to 1950m ) , with a mild flavor characterized and distinguished from other coffees from Africa. It is highly appreciated by those who know them.
The Burundi puts on the international market two coffees undergoing two different technological treatments : Washed Coffee and Café Fully Washed . The first is prepared by the growers themselves , while the latter is prepared according to modern technology in washing stations of the state or private.
For both categories of Coffee ( Washed and Fully Washed ) : Several grades are available for export after the qualitative determination by a taxing laboratory housed within the regulatory authority of Burundi's coffee sector . It is necessary to meet such grades WAB , WC, WTT , WT for Washed and FWAA , FWA , FWB , FWTT , FWT for Fully Washed .
Of these grades , there are cafes that can be classified as specialty coffee popular in the U.S. and Japanese markets.
These different grades often by grain size but also the organoleptic quality after tasting.
The system of export sales is subject to tendering or direct contracting .
The purchase is normally done by container 320 bags of 60 kg each or 19.20T.
Field of qualitative competition , they often occupy the first place beside cafes in the subregion as Kenyan and Ethiopian coffees.
